How to speak up at City Hall

Any public hearing begins with public comments. First, all in-person comments, followed by call-in comments. Prepare a 2-minute comment, but be ready to deliver it in 1 minute…

a) COMMENTS IN PERSON: Show up in person, sign up to speak, and the Chair will call your name. When you have a one-minute public comment, you’ll hear a tone after 50 seconds. Don’t let that confuse you - there’s 10 seconds left! It’s perfectly OK to read your statement.

b) CALL IN: You can sign up for remote comments starting one hour before the hearing begins, and can sign up even as remote comments are underway. This link for sign up will be active during that time. Register with the phone number you will be calling from to ensure you are recognized. You’ll receive an email with the call-in information and details. The Chair calls on each speaker by name, at which point they can unmute themselves by pressing 6 on their phone. You then state your name and provide your comments.

c) EMAIL: Email council@seattle.gov, or else: Committee Chair Lin, and your district representative, and the two at-large representatives
