SUPPORT AMENDMENTS 93 and 102
EMAIL TODAY
Subject: Yes on 93 & 102
Dear Councilmembers:
Last Friday, you heard from many people asking you to vote Yes on amendments 93 and 102 for stronger tree protections. I’m adding my voice. Please vote yes on 93 & 102 for Seattle’s urban forest.
Amendment 102:
Prioritizes housing. It does not reduce the number or size of housing units. Amendment 102 only protects Tier 2 trees (2-ft diameter). If a developer cannot fit their housing while keeping the tree, the tree may still be removed.
Follows a National Standard: Washington D.C., New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Portland all have agencies to request design changes for tree protection as part of permitting.
No Added Cost: In 2022, the Seattle Hearing Examiner dismissed developers’ claims, finding no evidence of delays or added expense.
Added Flexibility: Allows SDCI to request alternative designs so that more trees on a property are retained; also makes the tree protection area more flexible.
Amendment 93:
Incentivizes developers to preserve trees and creates space for more.
Allows reductions to setbacks and offers height & floor space bonuses.
Without this change, 95% of every lot can be paved, cementing in a future without green space.
Sincerely
Your name
